Visiting the DDOT Traffic Control Officers at 14th and Irving

Councilmember Nadeau allocated funding for the positions during last year’s budget process, knowing the positions were necessary to keep bus and bike lanes clear and moving.

A group of residents, wearing coats on a chilly day, on the sidewalk talking. One man gestures with his hands and is speaking. Two women in yellow safety jackets/uniforms are present. A 52 bus is pulled up at the curb.

Councilmember Nadeau and her team visited Columbia Heights earlier this week, where they met our two traffic control officers who are newly dedicated to 14th and Irving. Councilmember Nadeau allocated funding for the positions during last year’s budget process, knowing the positions were necessary to keep our bus and bike lanes clear and moving. (They are doing a great job!)

We were joined by interim District Department of Transportation Director Sharon Kirshbaum and the DDOT bus priority team to talk about improvements to the existing 14th Street bus/bike lanes -- technically still a pilot project from 2020! They're working on cleaning up the rubber curb stops that have dislodged with a plan to replace them with more robust barriers, as well as look at redesigns for the corridor.
