Nadeau Statement on Chancellor Wilson

WASHINGTON – Ward 1 D.C. Councilmember Brianne K. Nadeau issued the following statement today:

“As a parent and a Councilmember, I am deeply concerned about recent revelations that Chancellor Wilson’s own child was transferred inappropriately. I know from my Ward 1 constituents how stressful and challenging the school lottery can be, and how important school placement is for each child.

“I’ve worked with Chancellor Wilson since day one, and have been so relieved to finally have someone at the top of DCPS who truly listens, who is responsive to parent concerns, and has worked with me in partnership to move forward on long-standing issues in the schools I serve. In my interactions with him, the Chancellor’s openness and spirit of collaboration embodied the best qualities we should look for in a leader of our schools.

“That’s why the Chancellor’s actions feel so deeply disappointing. I’ve heard from many parents, some insisting he must go, others urging us to keep him. I’ve taken the time to speak with the Chancellor, and I believe his apology is genuine. But in matters like these, we must hold our officials to a higher standard.

“Although we are still waiting for the results of the Inspector General’s inquiry, I believe too much damage has been done to the public trust. I believe the Chancellor should resign.”
