WASHINGTON — The proposed merger of PEPCO and Exelon raises serious concerns for ratepayers and could deal a setback to District renewable energy investments according to a letter sent today by Ward 1 D.C. Councilmember Brianne K. Nadeau to the Public Service Commission, which is tasked with reviewing the deal. Nadeau sent the letter after reviewing all submitted testimony and hearing from a large number of constituents on the issue.

“While the Council does not have a vote on this issue, I felt compelled to share my findings after reviewing the submitted testimony and hearing from many passionate constituents,” said Councilmember Nadeau. “I have serious concerns that a merger could expose District ratepayers to rate increases and could have a negative impact on our progress on renewables. I urge the commission to consider my serious concerns when making a decision about this merger.”
