Meet our constituent services team
Amanda primarily serves residents in ANC1B and ANC1C, which includes the neighborhoods of LeDroit Park, U Street, the southern parts of Columbia Heights and Pleasant Plains, Shaw, Meridian Hill, Adams Morgan, and Lanier Heights.
Amanda Bonam is committed to serving the residents of Ward 1. As an undergraduate student at Howard University, Amanda served as the president of the Howard University Community Development Association which allowed her to engage with the surrounding Lower Georgia Avenue, Shaw, LeDroit Park, and Pleasant Plains communities. In October 2015, Amanda filled a vacant seat on Advisory Neighborhood Commission 1B where she served and represented Single Member District 1B10 for over a year. She graduated from Howard University with a B.A. in Sociology in May 2017 and hopes to use her education to advocate for marginalized communities.
John primarily serves residents in ANC1A and ANC1D, which includes the neighborhoods of Mount Pleasant, most of Columbia Heights, the northern part of Pleasant Plains, and Park View.
John has lived in U Street, Adams Morgan, and is currently an active member of the LeDroit Park neighborhood, where he served as the Membership Committee Chair for the LeDroit Park Neighborhood Association. John brings his experience in the both private and non-profit sectors, as a Project Manager and Member Relations Manager respectively. In high school, John spent a year studying in Brazil as a Rotary Club exchange student, returned to South America for a year in college, and is fluent in Portuguese. While studying International Relations, Ethics, and Social Justice at Boston College, John realized his true passion was for local governance and community building. John is excited to be a member of the Constituent Services team and for the opportunity to serve the residents of Ward 1.
How we approach constituent services
Councilmember Nadeau’s top priority is to ensure District government is working for you. She has made it her office’s mission to run an effective constituent services program that not only helps individual residents, but also takes into account and works to resolve the root causes of the problems that affect our neighborhoods. In addition to solving individual resident’s problems, our goal is to proactively prevent the same problem from affecting others.
In addition to solving problems in our office, we track our open cases on a weekly basis to identify ongoing problems that are affecting Ward 1 residents. Councilmember Nadeau alerts the Mayor’s team to these trends, and perform rigorous oversight of government agencies all year round. When oversight isn’t enough, she works with her colleagues on the Council to pass better laws that address common constituent concerns and, through our annual budget process, ensure that government services are properly funded.
When you contact our office for help, you will get Councilmember Nadeau and her constituent services staff’s focus and attention. She works with her constituent services team to carefully monitor the progress and outcomes of cases. Many of you have heard from Councilmember Nadeau personally about outcomes because it’s important to her to make sure you’re satisfied with the work we have done on your behalf—and it’s important for her to know that your issue has been fully resolved.
Who we help
Constituent services are available for all Ward 1 residents, as well as our local businesses. For the most basic issues, we use the 311 system to first log the issue and then we work with the relevant government agency to fulfill the request. For more complex issues we work directly with government agencies over time to resolve the issue. We do our work in partnership with constituents and their ANCs, as well as the Mayor’s office to ensure we are all working toward the same goal.
Commonly requested services include:
- Garbage and recycling
- Parking meters and parking signs
- Sidewalk and street repairs
- Streetlight repairs
- Traffic Signals
- And more!
